Perlite Box
Perlite is a naturally occurring siliceous rock that when heated to 1600 F expands up to 20 times its original volume. We utilize these properties to make the very best perlite through a kilning process. It is very similar to popping popcorn and produces a growing medium that is sterile and has a neutral pH of 7.0. There is 4 cubic feet in a box that is only 24″ by 18″ by 18″. It does weigh just over 30 lbs.

Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian. It occurs naturally and has the unusual property of greatly expanding when heated sufficiently. So in laymen terms it is lavarock that has been popped like popcorn!
